Shoot InformationIf considering a shoot with Manring Photo, please take a minute to read over the below typical shoot information. It often helps to answer questions about shoot location, makeup & wardrobe, compensation, and escorts, etc, and reading through it will help the planning of our shoot go that much more smoothly.
Thank you. ABOUT. . .I am a national, traveling photographer, currently enjoying a hard-earned reputation for a distinctive style of imagery--especially in my fine-art nude work--and presently have interest from collectors and professional photographers from around the globe. My continuing aim is hard-cover publication, physical art gallery placement, and print sales. With regular stops across the United States, I occasionally have need for select models for TF* and paid projects that may include: - Fashion On the Fly - Fine Art & Erotic Nudes - NoTell Motel & Garage Glam - Dream Sprites & Trickster Spirits - Retro & Contemporary Pin-Ups & Lingerie - Body Mods: American Tatts & Peircings Though I often work with models on an ongoing basis, I am always open to meeting new and interesting, creative people, of any level of experience, with whom to collaborate. Though most of my creative energy these days is taken up with photography and creating images, my other interests include short fiction, essays, and poetry, all of which I taught professionally to both teens and adults; writing and playing music; history and regional achitecture; and anecdotes and storytelling. And, of course, traveling. Endless, meandering, travels over the entire continental United States, which seems to constantly refresh and feed all of my creative interests. SHOOT DETAILS. . .WARDROBE & STYLING: I do virtually all of the visual concepts and wardrobe styling for my shoots, and usually travel with extensive wardrobe, accessories, and props. Much of the wardrobe and accessories seen on the models in my portfolio is from my collection of wardrobe for shoots. I am always interested, however, in that which a model may have for wardrobe, too.MAKEUP: I prefer to have pro makeup done for most shoots, and will usually cover that expense, though I usually travel with a huge amount of high-end makeup product and always-clean equipment. More makeup product than you have ever seen a photographer have, I'll bet. For most models it is an "OMG!" playground. If a model is particularly adept at doing her own makeup, she is more than welcome to use mine to create the looks we're after. After years of being a lettering, gold leaf, and fine art brush artist of some detail, I am slowly learning the cool art of makeup for photo shoots myself, as well. Please note that though I usually travel by vehicle around the country, at times I do fly, and at those times I do not bring along all my wardrobe or makeup, just my camera gear and lighting, and sometimes selected wardrobe and makeup. SHOOT LOCATION. . .Almost all of the studio work you see in my portfolio--whether it be fashion, head shots, pin-ups, or nude figure work--is shot in upscale hotel suites all over the United States, with my seamless backgrounds, considerable gear, and full sets of studio lighting. I do, however, enjoy the occasional grand old downtown hotel, old Rt 66 style motor court, private home, or any of a variety of other locations, for their varying character and flavor. For those not used to the idea, suites provide a level of comfort, cleanliness, safety, and security usually not found in a private home or remote warehouse studio, for both model and photographer. Should attention be needed, safety is just the other side of the door and into the hallway, or as close as the front desk, not down the block or miles away in the dark. Most people find it surprising to realize all my inside work was done this way, but it was. As more experienced models and photographers know, shoots all over the world are done this way. On the other hand, if you have a cool and unique outdoor or industrial setting or other suitable location in which you are comfortable and would like to shoot, I will probably love you forever. I am also starting to do far more of what I call Fashion On the Fly, on the streets and in the parks of American cities with intriguing and unique backgrounds, which I am sure will make some studio fashion purists cringe. Well, too bad; I'm having a lot of fun with it and am producing what I think are some cool results. Same with the NoTell Motel & Garage Glam; I adore cool retro and funky places that provide interesting and unique backgrounds and lighting situations. ESCORTS. . .Though I understand the need some may have for an escort or friend to come along to a shoot, I rarely encourage them, and will always opt for the model who does not need an escort over one who demands one. That does not mean I will forbid them. If I do allow it, there's a good chance I will ask the escort to hang around nearby once we've met, but not on set, depending. Here's why: It can be very distracting, especially to newer models, to have a friend/boyfriend/partner present. Many, many an otherwise wonderful image has been lost to last second glances towards the escort for approval of pose, or wardrobe, or expression. I've had gear get broken. I've had gear go missing. I've answered non-ending streams of questions about how I work, why I do something a certain way, or how I get the results I do. I've waited for non-ending streams of conversation between model and escort to end so we could shoot. I've had shoots end before scheduled because the escort was bored or didn't like the fact they were not getting attention themselves. Oftentimes there simply is not enough room for myself, the model, all the gear and lighting, and an escort, and I am constantly asking the escort to move, again. I am always willing to meet a model (and her friend/boyfriend/partner if need be) before a shoot, either on set or at any closeby neutral place they might desire, if it helps assure that I am on the up-and-up and am not going to steal you and make a dash for Canada. Okay, maybe to the high desert of California or Nevada, but only if you promise to model for outdoor work on the dunes. . . Hopefully you can see from my work--and the sheer number of models I have worked with around the country--that I am all about making pretty pictures and keeping the shoot productive and the model happy, not endangering her. To do that I always create a comfortable, safe, and fun environment in which to shoot. Otherwise you are not comfortable and I do not get the expressions and poses I'm after. If you would like references from models who have worked with me without an escort present, let me know. I will forward your info to them and let them contact you when they can. You can also see comments from several recent models here, on the MODELS COMMENTS page. MODEL COMPENSATION. . .Almost always trade. Seriously. Time for prints, or wardrobe, pro makeup, nails, travel and other expenses, etc. Sometimes cash, and then usually only to experienced figure models with well-established and extensive portfolios, who derive all or most of their living from modeling, or to very experienced nude models who are willing to collaborate on specific projects.IMAGES: I prefer to make time before a shoot ends--even if it means stopping a good groove of shooting--for us to go over together the work we've just done, especially if the first time we've worked together. That helps me understand which images you like of yourself, and which ones you might not like, for whatever reason. In addition to expenses and makeup being paid, TF* models receive web-ready copies of selected best images, usually via email, after I have time to edit, retouch, and resize. That does not mean the next day, no matter what the special need or emergency, though every effort is made to get them to you in a reasonable amount of time. I do promise that models will receive web-ready copies of all images I use in any public online portfolio of my own, and that they will always receive them before I use them online. For paid model shoots, the primary compensation is the immediate cash; images or prints you may receive are usually bonus, though that is negotiable per shoot. The same deal stands for paid models, though: I promise that models will receive web-ready copies of all images I use in any public online portfolio of my own, and that they will always receive them before I use them online. Physical prints for personal display or for your book are negotiable by print, and by shoot, though I have been known to include it as part of both TF* and Paid arrangements, and to send free prints to models out of the blue. Ya just have to be nice. I retain copyright to all images I make, unless you are paying for full rights. No, I do not give out copies of every single shot taken, unless you'd like to pay for the rights to all images. No, I do not give out raw full-sized images of any shot taken, nor full-sized edited images for printing, unless, again, you'd like to pay for the rights. TO HIRE ME. . .If I already have enough of the kind of work you're after in my portfolio, but you really want me to do your head shots, full-body shots for an agency, or any other particular style of images, let's talk about what it would take. I have very friendly professional rates. If you're willing to give me creative control over the shoot after discussing what you need, I am sure we can work out a sweet all-the-way-round deal. It may cost you travel expenses. It may cost you a cheeseburger. But it will cost you for location fees (unless willing to shoot where I am), for any makeup, wardrobe, or props needed, and for any prints afterwards. I am open to bribery, though. . .If you want to hire me and have complete creative control yourself, and need me just as a nameless mechanic you can boss around to work camera and lights, I'm not your guy, seriously, unless you have a boatload of moohlah. That sort of work holds no interest for me, at least at this point. CONTACT. . .If interested in contacting me about a specific project or modeling gig, or in purchasing prints or publishing rights to any of my work, please write to me at manringphoto(at)gmail.com.Please note that I am literally on the road in America, coast-to-coast and north-to-south, every week of the year so stay constantly, and very, busy. It is a lifestyle I adore and which I find nurturing, but which often leaves me out of reach for various lengths of time with little to no Net connection or cell phone service. Yep, there are still long stretches in America that one can be unreachable, thank god. Using my regular email address of manringphoto(at)gmail.com is always preferred over any other method, including voicemail, cell texting, or model port and social network mail; all of which may be inaccessible from where I am, or may disappear before I get to them. Seriously. Those who insist on corresponding only through cell texting or mail at model ports will end up being inadvertantly ignored sooner or later. Then we may miss the chance to shoot, and we'll both be sad. Interested in doing some fun, cool and creative, unique work together? Cool, send a note to the email below. I'd love to hear from you, and will get back to you as soon as I can. . .
